Description
Houses give your Refugees a place to rest, be safe, and take care of their families. As your Village progresses to higher Technology Levels, it is possible that your Villager will slowly grow accustomed to a higher standard of living. Better houses, better beds, and better Community Buildings are a recipe for success.
Pro tip: 3D Printers can be used to easily construct buildings as your village expands, and Power Tools can quickly tear down buildings to replace them with more advanced structures.
Houses
Houses need a few basic things to be livable: 1) They shouldn't be open to the outside world. That's just not safe. 2) They need a Door to enter. 3) They need a Bed of the matching Technology Level. 4) They need to be structurally sound.
Once your house meets the basic requirements above, the Technology Level of your house will be determined by if it is constructed with the correct materials and if it has the right type of Bed. As you advance through the ages, the construction materials become stronger and able to support larger structures, which in turn allows you to place more beds and increase the density of your population. Another benefit of advanced materials is that stronger materials need to make up less and less of a structure's walls, allowing you to be more creative with adding windows and using other aesthetically pleasing materials in your buildings to increase Villager Happiness.
For the exact requirements needed for a house to qualify for a given Technology Level, see the table below:
Tech Level | Required Construction Material | Required Bed Type | Maximum Structure Footprint (including walls) | Room configurations | Allowable Height of Doors (# of blocks above the Village Plot Blocks) | % of Walls that Must be Construction Material (not including corners/floor/ceiling) | Population Capacity per Floor |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Dirt | Hay Bales | 25 sq. meters | 5x5 blocks (3x3 interior) | 4 blocks (~ 1 story) | >= 85% | 1 |
2 | Wood | Acrylic Wool | 40 sq. meters | 5x8 blocks (3x6 interior) or 6x6 blocks with overhang (4x4 interior with 2 block overhang) | 4 blocks (~ 1 story) | >= 75% | 1 |
3 | Stone(not cobblestone) | Olefin Wool | 55 sq. meters | 5x11 blocks (3x9 interior) or 7x7 blocks with overhang (5x5 interior with 2-6 block overhang) | 8 blocks (~ 2 stories) | >= 65% | 2 |
4 | Polexiglas | Polyester Wool (Beginner) | 70 sq. meters | 5x14 blocks (3x12 interior) or 8x8 blocks (6x6 interior) with overhang | 8 blocks (~ 2 stories) | >= 55% | 2 |
5 | ABS Bricks | Polyester Wool (Intermediate) | 85 sq. meters | 5x17 blocks (3x15 interior) and others | 12 blocks (~ 3 stories) | >= 50% | 5 |
6 | Bronze | Nylon Wool (Beginner) | 100 sq. meters | 5x20 blocks or 10x10 blocks | 16 blocks (~ 4 stories) | >= 45% | 7 |
7 | Stainless Steel | Nylon Wool (Intermediate) | 115 sq. meters | 5x23 blocks or 10x11 blocks | 20 blocks (~ 5 stories) | >= 40% | 9 |
8 | Carbon Fiber Resin | Nylon Silk (Advanced) | 130 sq. meters | 5x26 blocks or 11x11 blocks | 24 blocks (~ 6 stories) | >= 35% | 11 |

Beds
Every Bed in a House counts as 1 Population Capacity for your village. Similar to the construction material upgrades, every Technology Level upgrades the quality of the Beds your Villagers will sleep in. To count towards your Challenge Score, any Bed must match the Technology Level of the House it is in.
Multistory Houses
As your construction material advances (starting at Technology Level 3), you can start to 3D Print multi-story structures and build your Village vertically! While this gives you increased opportunities to skyrocket your Population, the Refugees must still be able to safely enter each home. For any Door to valid that is more than 2 blocks above the Village Blocks, it must have a ladder nearby that extends safely to the ground.
