Figure 1: This is the area where you can help settle Refugees in engineered dwellings
Figure 2: When you wander into the Village Plot, dynamic scoring shows you key metrics about your Village. The top number is the current value of your Village as built that contributes to your Challenge Score. You can also see how many valid structures your team has built, your Population Capacity and your Happiness at the Technology Level that houses the most people in your current village configuration. You also see a count of Community Buildings referenced by their special block (i.e. Toilet for a Bathroom) at your current Technology Level. Typing 'c' or 'v' on the keyboard while you are on the Village Plot opens up more advanced analytics windows that can help the very best civic engineers maximize the impact of your villages.

Your team has been given a specially-designated 48 block x 48 block area on Polycraft Island to build a Village to settle your Refugees and help them become industrious Villagers. The Village Plot is designated by a special type of block (example image to the right). Any buildings you build with Door tiles and entryways not on top of the Village Plot will not be suitable to house Refugees, and will not count towards your Challenge Score. Portions of your dwellings however can hang off of the Village Plot.

Over the course of the challenge, you will construct different dwellings on the Village Plot including Houses and Community Buildings. Depending on the Technology Level of the House, it has a maximum allowable footprint and it's walls must be made of a certain fraction of the material of that age (i.e. Dirt, Wood, Stone, or Polexiglas) in Round 1. As you progress through the Ages, your team will be able to make structures that house your Refugees more densely and eventually be able to build on multiple stories. Much of the Score in this challenge comes from building and destroying your Village on the Village Plot as you get access to new and better building materials, beds and Community Buildings. In the early stages of your challenge, it is easier to keep your population happier, perhaps just with access to a Toilet. As your teams tries to Challenge Score, it will become a greater and greater engineering challenge to make sure your Villagers have access to all of the appropriate amenities which governs your Community Score.

The Village Plot is likely to be the central focus area of your team during the 2021 BEST Robotics 3D Printing Challenge. It is recommended that you store your own resources nearby and ensure easy access to the Village Plot from all sides of the island. To do well, you will need to explore the island and solve the solve the Scavenger Hunt mysteries, but you will find yourselves returning to the Village Plot to take care of increasing numbers of Refugees that want to make your growing island their new home.

Pro Tips: Hit 'c' and 'v' keys (or something else if you choose to remap them) to bring up more detailed analytics about the current status of your village.
