Description

Your team has been given a specially-designated 48 block x 48 block area on Polycraft Island to build a Village to settle your Refugees and help them become industrious Villagers. The Village Plot is designated by a special type of block (example image to the right). Any buildings you build with Door tiles and entryways not on top of the Village Plot will not be suitable to house Refugees, and will not count towards your Score. Portions of your dwellings however can hang off of the Village Plot.

Over the course of the challenge, you will construct different dwellings on the Village Plot including Houses and Community Buildings. Depending on the Technology Level of the House, it has a maximum allowable footprint and it's walls must be made of a certain fraction of the material of that age (i.e. Dirt, Wood, Stone, or Polexiglas) in Round 1. As you progress through the Ages, your team will be able to make structures that house your Refugees more densely and eventually be able to build on multiple stories. Much of the score in this challenge comes from building and destroying your Village on the Village Plot as you get access to new and better building materials, beds and Community Buildings. In the early stages of your challenge, it is easier to keep your population happier, perhaps just with access to a Toilet. As your teams tries to Score Through the Ages, it will become a greater and greater engineering challenge to make sure your Villagers have access to all of the appropriate amenities which governs your Community Score.

The Village Plot is likely to be the central focus area of your team during the 2021 BEST Robotics 3D Printing Challenge. It is recommended that you store your own resources nearby and ensure easy access to the Village Plot from all sides of the island. To do well, you will need to explore the island and solve the solve the Scavenger Hunt mysteries, but you will find yourselves returning to the Village Plot to take care of increasing numbers of Refugees that want to make your growing island their new home.
